Lambert Kamps

by Xavier Speeleveld

groningen-based artist and designer lambert kamps has presented a selection of his most renowned work during IMM cologne 2014 for the gronicles #4 exhibition at passagen. featuring ‘inflatable furniture’, a series of swollen, bulging chairs and ‘cozy shelter’, an interactive inflatable hiding ground, the objects intersect the boundary between art, architecture and design. appearing like a sandbag fortress, the blow-up defense structure appears as a pastel collard cave, providing space for people to enjoy the warm, internal atmosphere, layered with soft wool blankets. constructed with a 220 meter long inflatable tube and wrapped with nautical fabrics, the temporary installation is banded in layers and connected together with red straps. visitors can navigate through the various openings by popping their heads between the gaps within the surface.

Miya Ando

by Xavier Speeleveld

As with her earlier metal paintings, her new works are luminous blue, pink, green and gold, a palette she conjures from a limited selection of industrial dyes. Ando uses different techniques to adhere the color to the aluminum panels, including anodization, in which sapphire crystals are electroplated to the metal, allowing the dyes to bond. Another approach is the layered application of pigments and urethane, which allows for variations of color and finish, with some areas of the painting matte and others glossy. To produce a high-gloss finish, Ando adds up to twenty layers of urethane and resin, which vividly amplifies the reflective quality of the metal. The resulting works subtly evoke ethereal, minimalist landscapes, cloud formations and abstracted metallic horizons.

Adam Lister

by Xavier Speeleveld

Combining the deconstructed and minimal aesthetic of old-school video graphics with the rough and uneven textures more often seen in watercolour paintings, American painter Adam Lister creates engaging visual compositions that depict famous artworks and pop-culture characters. Inspired by the 8-bit graphics of the Atari and Nintendo game consoles he used to play as a child, Lister likes to use the principle of pixelated images as a guideline for his works. The resulting paintings are both enigmatic and familiar, funny and bittersweet, as if all our favourite sci-fi and fantasy movie characters are staring at us through a distorted, prismatic glass – but on second thought, isn’t that how childhood memories feel like in the first place?

Adam Lister was born in 1978 and is a resident of New York City. He has presented his work in various exhibitions across the USA and in London.

Lee JeeLoung

by Xavier Speeleveld

Since 2007,  Lee JeeYoung shoots the invisible. Whereas traditional photography submits extracts of reality to our eyes, the artist offers excerpts from her heart, her memory, or her dreams. Restrained by the inherent limits of the conventional photographic medium, she adds plastic creativity and theatrical performance to it, in order to blow life into her immense needs of expression, and interrogation.

BrettAmory

by Xavier Speeleveld

Born in Chesapeake, Virginia in 1975, Brett Amory is descended from a long line of visual artists and musicians. He studied at the Academy of Art from which he received a BFA in Fine Art in 2005 and was recipient of two major awards given by the school. Brett began working on the painting series entitled “Waiting” in 2001. The series depicts the urban individual’s yearning for presence and the seeming impossibility of attaining it. The paintings portray commuters in transit immersed in either a quiet, even hopeful state or, alternately, an anguish of unfulfilled anticipation.
