Lucyna Kolendo

by Xavier Speeleveld

Fascination with the body and fascination with the possibilities of preserving its images by means of photographic techniques have been creating an almost inextricable connection since Daguerre’s and Talbot’s times. Photography seems to objectivise what on the surface of a mirror is just a working hypothesis of existence, noticed ‒ often instinctively ‒ during the ritual morning toilet. A photo film frame gives to these fleeting glances optical density and at the same time provides them with a kind of “specific gravity”. These are not just “physical” categories, as sometimes this “specific gravity” assumes the proportions of the gravity of our existence, both beautiful and painful. At such point photography becomes one of the proofs of HUMAN EXISTENCE.

Sander Meisner

by Xavier Speeleveld

Sander is a self taught photographer born (1979), living and working in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
He works with themes and ideas dealing with public space, abstraction, transformation, the passing of time, change, utopia/dystopia, function and transition. In geometric, almost abstract shapes and lines, he photographes the usually overlooked corners of the buildings in our cities. He looks for these compositions at night, when the sun is gone and the artificial light of the night creates colors and shapes which cannot be seen with the naked eye. When he photographs these grim and grey places and expose the photographic film with extremely long exposures, the night turns out to be both very colourful and beautiful.

We appreciate his work
