Ryan Hewett

by Xavier Speeleveld

Contrary to the tradition of verisimilitude, for Hewett the portrait is not about capturing an external likeness of a subject, but rather as a portrait to an inner journey of self-exploration. Hewett does not use sitters or models in an effort to produce a realistic depiction. Although photographs constitute his starting point, he relies principally on the free-blowing process of memory and creative imagination. His portraits encapsulate the truism: that the subject matter of all art is, ultimately, the self.

Mark Dorf

by Xavier Speeleveld

The young artist, Mark Dorf, grew up in Louisville, KY in a family based in science and arts. For the past few years he has spent his time seeking out new landscapes and environments to immerse himself within in order to continue his explorations of humanity and their interactions with the natural landscape from where we all once originally came. Mark seeks to understand humanity as an observer in his surroundings, using photography as a tool to explore the curious habitation of the world around us. Mark currently resides in Brooklyn, New York where he creates his images and continues to explore contemporary art.

Ellen Jantzen

by Xavier Speeleveld

IShe has been making mher current body of work with digitally manipulated photography for over ten years now and find great satisfaction and excitement each day as she works. This is the perfect marriage of two dimensional graphic sensibilities and her need to create “things”. Because she creates ephemeral assemblages in her photography.

Sarah Eisenlohr

by Xavier Speeleveld

In the words of the artist:

I used collage as a medium to transform existing images of cold, desolate landscapes into ones that show humans placed amidst them, in the strange and seemingly supernatural. They become a metaphor for the untraveled places and new territory we find ourselves in as we explore life. Encountering the unknown can be a flourishing transition, while its uncertainty can cause a degree of fear when we distance ourselves from our usual comfort and stability. Actually acting out this fear disappears with maturity, making this emotional vulnerability best portrayed through children. I use children to symbolize the fragility and vulnerability of the psyche when placed in disorienting spaces and the subsequent need to seek out comfort. While all the figures show they have found something that physically protects them, some still seem to seek something more. The symbolism of this idea is personal to me in that I find it through spirituality and faith, though humans search for comfort in various ways. I consider the figures’ desire for shelter, warmth, and something stronger than themselves as symbols of serenity that I seek through spirituality, while the use of sublime in my work points to a relationship with the divine.

Antonella Montes

by Xavier Speeleveld

In the words of the artist:

Hello, I’m Antonella Montes, aka Lantomo, artist and illustrator, Italian, based in Barcelona, now living in Beijing. I have been active for 10 years now as an artist and illustrator, along with my work as an architect and graphic designer. My works are mainly related to the world of illustration and street art.

I have developed my work stimulated by the creative environment of Barcelona´s underground culture, and in this city I’m realized the mayoral of my expositions and contacts.I experiment with wood of all kinds, for which I have an absolute fixation, I recycle them and turn it into my canvas, using it´s knots and fibers in order to tell a story about a sensory world, with characters that fluctuate between disappointment, innocence, childness and wickedness.

Mikko Lagerstedt

by Xavier Speeleveld

In the words of the great photographer :

Hi! My name is Mikko, I'm a self-taught fine art photographer from Kerava, Finland. I was born in November 1982 in a small town in Finland. My photography journey started in December 2008 and I fell in love with it straight away. I have always been interested in drawings paintings and photography - finally when photography found me, I knew it was my vision. It is my goal to capture the feeling I had when I took the photograph. I love to view the world from different perspectives. In our lives, things can go so fast that we forgot to enjoy these short moments - if I can make people stop and see the beauty of life and feelings, I have succeeded.

Dimitris Polychroniadis

by Xavier Speeleveld

Dimitris Polychroniadis is an architect and award winning stage designer that lives and works in Athens, Greece. He has worked for a number of years in private architectural practices, obtaining a wide range of experience in design and construction. He has attended the Scenography workshop classes at the Athens School of Fine Arts and has started to make mixed media sculptures that strongly originate from his architectural and theatrical backround: “Could the deconstructive forces of a crisis motivate self awareness, both individually and collectively? My need to comment on the dramatic events that have unravelled in Greece during the past four years, was the starting point for this body of work. Cross-fertilisation between different disciplines is key. Originating from a backround of architecture and stage designing for theatre, models and maquettes have allways been a familiar language.”

Gmunk

by Xavier Speeleveld

Hallucinations occur through a multitude of senses. Whether conscious or subconscious, chemically induced or naturally formed, hallucinations often leave us with visual stimuli with which we gain significant artistic inspiration. We asked several talented artists to propagate such experiences via a tangible form of design.

PYRAD INSPIRATION / COLLABORATION
The main inspiration for the creative came from the DMT-Delicious moments in the super-favorite film Enter the Void… Munko has been on a tunnel infinite-void kick for some years now and wanted to build a practical, LED installation driven by graphic sequencing, utilizing the techniques learned from the FOTB Titles and applying them into a more densely packed setup called the PYRADICAL... Once the Pyrad was constructed, the aim was to capture the visuals with both high-resolution Film and Still cameras, which would generate a vast library of content to pull from to produce the artwork for the Conference Package..He tapped super-friend and lighting genius Michael Fullman to help him execute the concept, which was to construct a triangular volume out of three LED panels, flanked on either end by a trio of Light Tubes that would complete the design. Once Munk and and Michael had the concept and build nailed down, he tapped frequent collaborators Kevin Gosselin and John Nguyen to capture the installation on the Arri Alexa and Nikon D800.

Industrial facility

by Xavier Speeleveld

Retail Facility the online store of industrial facility - will preview new projects at a pop up shop during london design festival 2013. during LDF, a temporary marketplace will present 'formwork' - a series of desktop accessories produced by Herman Miller  and designed by Sam Hecht. The collection of modular, stack-able artifacts includes cups, trays, boxes, media stands, and paper trays. hecht and colin closely examined the items that typically occupies the deskspace; through photographic research and documentation of the office, they commissioned a series of stationary organizers that reflect a mixture of the analogue and the digital in both the home and workplace. the simple forms, precise production methods, and muted colour palette indicate a level of thoughtfulness rarely brought to the desktop.
