Wang Ying

by Xavier Speeleveld

I spotted this dreamy fashion editorial in the current issue of Harper’s Bazaar China called “Dream of the Dress”. I love the surreal, fairytale-seque feel of these images – the clothes, the set, the hair & make up all work perfectly together to create a little parallel reality that equally appeals to both my “grown up” self and the “big kid” that’s still very much inside.

Beautiful styling by Wang Ying. Photography by Shxpir.

Lita Albuquerque

by Xavier Speeleveld

California-based artist Lita Albuquerque led an expedition to antarctica, near the south pole in the creation of her global installation ‘stellar axis’, a creative enterprise which became the first and largest ephemeral artwork created on the continent. Albuquerque and a team of researchers and astronomers situated 99 fabricated blue spheres on the earth’s icy surface, the placement of each corresponding to the location of one specific stars in the sky above.

Ana Teresa Barboza

by Xavier Speeleveld

Peruvian artist Ana Teresa Barboza is so mother badass with embroidery and drawings. No, but seriously, have you ever seen embroidery look this mean? There’s something so captivating about these images, don’t you think? They are equal parts delicate, feminine, gruesome and spine-tingling.

Susan Stockwell

by Xavier Speeleveld

Thematically navigating the notions of international connectivity, personal and social history, and global exchange, Susan Stockwell's immersive ‘sail away’ unites these motifs through a single medium: currency. The humble, yet ever essential resource is a commodity of culture and civilization, with varying countries’ conception embedded in antiquity and humanity.

Udo Noger

by Xavier Speeleveld

Udo Noger (born 1961 in Oberhausen, Germany) is a painter who employs light as a material, manipulating his canvas to both capture and convey a calm radiance. Organic geometries laid over monochromatic color fields build compositions that are at once minimal yet complex. Nöger achieves this by layering and cutting away parts of his canvas, allowing light to infiltrate the picture plane and radiate from within the painting itself. Nöger's work is in prominent public and private collections world-wide.

Avian architecture

by Xavier Speeleveld

Using mixed materials like plumage, hair, gold, and paint, new zealand artist Karley Feaver creates exotic creatures and nests with a strangely familiar and surreal aesthetic. transforming found birds — all of which are ethically sourced and have died of natural causes — from stagnant figures to sculptural objects, the reconfigured animals are fitted with extravagant hairdos. ponytails, mohawks, dreadlocks, and braids are styled onto the colorful fowl, some with shining gold-painted beaks, granting each a personality, identity, and singular charm. habitats fashioned from both human and synthetic hair weave new interpretations of traditional nestings, modeling a novel type of avian architecture.

Chris Sutevski is a Canberra based artist currently studying Printmaking & Drawing at the Australian National University School of Art. Interested in chance and generative based processes, he creates systems where self emergent properties are achieved through the inherent errors, chance, unpredictability and shifts in processing or repetition of both drawings and print.

Experiments in data bending and visual sound manipulation. These artworks were exported as uncompressed data and fed as raw binary into a sound editing program. This essentially is the sound of an 'image'.Tapping into the vibrations of the the digital zeitgeist, I believe that these sounds although abstract let us perceive the images with all of our senses. Yawing from our reality and dipping into an interwoven network of information and consciousness that operates on an alternate frequency.

Seven years after Frank Gehry's  original plans for the los angeles grand avenue project were declined, developer Related Companies has once again turned to the renowned architect to establish the three acre site. The new $650 million USD scheme was submitted to city officials for approval on november 25th, and is intended to form an important part of the city’s emerging cultural district, injecting vibrancy through restaurants, shops and other areas of recreation. the proposal promises welcoming public spaces, opening access routes through the site to adjacent landmarks, including rafael moneo’s ‘cathedral of our lady of the angels’, ‘the broad’ designed by diller scofidio + renfro, and gehry’s own ‘disney hall’.
