Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

by Xavier Speeleveld

french designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec have collaborated with crystal manufacturer swarovski to develop ‘gabriel chandelier’ a unique LED intervention in the palace of versailles in paris. measuring 12 meters in height and weighing half a tonne, the installation was conceived as the first permanent contemporary piece in the 17th century château. 800 crystal modules compose the suspended lighting system, illuminating the interior fabric of the space using a sequential pattern like magic. threaded around a stainless steel skeleton, the continuous crystal rope floats over the main staircase, glistening during the day, and providing a warm glow at night.

Thierry Feuz

by Xavier Speeleveld

Thierry Feuz, born in Vienna and now based in Geneva, has created an ongoing series of paintings—“Supernatural,” “Psychotropical,” “Technicolor,” and now “Gulfstream”—over the past five years. While separated into distinct groups, the paintings in these series share a fundamental characteristic: Each successive series appears to magnify the view of the preceding one, as though seen through a microscope. Feuz uses this scientific corollary to Cheap iPad 3 Casesreexamine classic conceptions of nature, a force that is at once beautiful and picturesque yet is always already in decay; his combination of abstraction and figuration articulates this deteriorating materiality and permits his investigation into permutations of instability—of perspective, physicality, and organicism.

CCTV

Motion sculptures for CCTV Documentary Channel is a digital metaphor of phenomenal blinks and moments that life consists of. In four Idents we follow a visual performance of organic and vital substance, animated using data of actors movements.Idents visualize four different themes. To emphasize the emotion of each Ident, we have decided to use different textures of steel, wood and glass. Motion sculpture of steel reflects old Chinese adage that true power is mastering yourself. Youthful energy of dancers evolve into beautiful organic sculpture. Colorful happiness is the engine of father's and his daughter's joy. Two lovers visualize fragility and vitality of love in the last Ident.

Fabian Oefner

For his latest series of paint action photography, swiss artist fabian oefner has once again captured ephemeral beauty by uniting gravity and liquid chroma to yield delicate and fragile ‘orchid’ structures. through the synthesis of natural forces and acrylic paint, blossom-like arrangements emerge from the fluid matter.

Sonice development

by Xavier Speeleveld

Thousands of painted lines made up of different tones and hues form an increasingly dense landscape of chroma in ‘emerging colorspace’: a robotic drawing installation by german studio sonice development. The autonomously wandering machine scales up and down on vertical surfaces, applying paint to the wall using a marker. following simple algorithmic rules with random elements of spontaneity, the device generates a continuously changing facade that infinitely transforms the interior fabric of the gallery space.

Art x Smart

by Xavier Speeleveld

Combining famous historical paintings with images of 21st century technology, ‘art x smart’ has transported them into another time. The addition of smartphones onto masterpieces by artists such as cézanne, gogh and manet forces one to re-examine them and question the influence of technology on modern society. The works are intended to be humorous parodies of the way smartphones have dramatically changed today’s social interaction. the models in the classical paintings use the devices to play games, take pictures and listen to music, as though the action was of second nature to them, like it is for us.

Ryue Nishizawa

by Xavier Speeleveld

Born from a creative collaboration between architect ryue nishizawa and design office nendo, the small ‘roof and mushrooms’ pavilion overlooks the campus of kyoto university of art and design. A single, undulating roof contours down a steep hill along kyoto’s eastern edge, moderately inclined to mirror the angle of the site. dipping beneath its far-reaching wooden dimensions, visitors realize that the overhead panel also translates into a wall at its base. maintaining his trademark aesthetic of luminous and ethereal architecture, nishizawa’s scheme for the pavilion creates a spatial experience that is intended to remind visitors of walking in the mountains, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior space.
